Sr. Backend Engineer
❓ Role Summary
We’re hunting a Senior/Staff Backend Engineer who treats latency like a personal enemy and turns millions of daily AI-powered calls into pure magic. We’re a mobile-first rocket building the OS for the next 100M small businesses—consumer-app vibes, AI brains, viral growth loops. Our first hit (a second phone number that answers itself with AI, transcribes, tags, and feeds your CRM) is already loved by 25,000+ paying businesses and growing like crazy. $12M raised from Lightspeed, EMBLEM, ex-WhatsApp & Stripe operators, and angels who built unicorns you actually use. You’ll pair-program with our ex-FAANG CTO, own the entire backend + AI stack, and ship systems that make mobile engineers weep with joy. If p99 under 80 ms, event-driven everything, and “sorry, we can’t keep up with demand” sounds like the best problem ever, come make history with us.
⚡ What you’ll do
- Co-found the backend with our CTO—like it’s 2012 and you’re the 4th engineer at Stripe
- Design and ship event-driven, auto-scaling systems that handle 10M+ calls/month today and 10× that next year without blinking
- Build the AI plumbing that turns raw audio into structured gold (transcription → intent → CRM sync) with near-zero latency
- Obsess over infra: Kubernetes, Terraform, observability stacks that actually work, chaos engineering for fun
- Unblock mobile engineers daily by delivering APIs so clean they’ll send you thank-you voice notes
- Pick the right tool for the job and throw away dogma—Go for speed, Kotlin when it makes sense, Python when you’re feeling spicy
- Ship monitoring so good we know there’s an outage before the user does (Datadog, OpenTelemetry, custom dashboards)
- Own the data layer like it owes you money—Postgres, Redis, event queues, zero-downtime migrations
🎯 What we’re looking for
- 5+ years building backend systems that scaled to millions of users (fintech, consumer, marketplaces—bonus if you survived hyper-growth)
- You speak fluent Go/Kotlin/Java/Python and can context-switch without crying
- Master-level SQL + schema design; you’ve done partition surgery on tables with billions of rows and lived to tell the tale
- Deep experience with AWS/GCP, k8s, Terraform, CI/CD that doesn’t suck
- You’ve shipped production AI features (transcription, LLM routing, RAG, function calling) and know the difference between demo and 99.99 % reliable
- You default to async everything, event-driven architectures, and CQRS when it actually makes sense (not just because it’s cool)
- You’ve been the “oh shit” firefighter who fixed p95 latency at 3 a.m. and then automated it away forever
- English fluency (Spanish/French is a cheat code but not required)

- You’ve built voice/AI products before (Twilio, Deepgram, AssemblyAI, etc.)
- You secretly love writing internal dev tools that make everyone 10× faster
- You’ve done the “migrate monolith → microservices → regret → land in the perfect middle” journey
